The Unforgettable 15th Hole at Grande Dunes Resort Course

Grande Dunes has everything golfers are looking for: natural beauty, consistently superb conditions, and playability. The course is Myrtle Beach’s longest at 7,618 yards, but has three sets of tees between 5,900 and 6,737 yards, so there are no excuses for playing too far back.

Throw in wide fairways and mid to high handicappers will have a chance to score with a good ball-striking round.

From the time groups cross the private bridge over the Intracoastal Waterway until they putt out on 18, Grande Dunes is a golf experience. The course has five holes that play along the Intracoastal, and the 14th is regarded by many as being among the state’s most dramatic par 3s. The Intracoastal Waterway runs the length of the hole, and the fairway is extremely wide, but (isn’t there always one?) it cants from left to right. Sure, the slope of the fairway can push balls toward the water, but its impact is most often felt on the approach.

At 400 yards from the white tees, the hole is long and drives that are on the right side of the fairway require an approach over a bunker that flanks the starboard side of the green. That’s a dicey shot for most players from 150+ yards to a large greens the runs from back to front.

The back nine at Grande Dunes will leave you begging for a replay, and the 15th is a primary reason why.
