Santa Clara University Wins Inaugural Myrtle Beach Golf Trips Intercollegiate

Santa Clara University led wire-to-wire this week, besting 13 additional men’s collegiate squads after 54 holes of play to capture the inaugural Myrtle Beach Golf Trips Intercollegiate at Grande Dunes Resort Course in Myrtle Beach.

Paced by leading scorers Emil Nielsen and J.P. Odland, the Broncos (-20) held off a persistent challenge from runner-up Campbell University (-18). East Carolina University (-14), host school Coastal Carolina University (-12) and Elon College (-11) rounded out the top five finishing squads.

The University of Texas El Paso’s Dylan Teeter and Elon’s Jack Wieler earned co-medalist honors in the individual competition, with each player finishing at 9-under par for the tournament.

Fourteen NCAA Division I men’s teams competed on a Roger Rulewich design that is no stranger to high-level competition. In 2014, Grande Dunes Resort Course joined The Dunes Golf & Beach Club as co-hosts of that year’s PGA Professional Championship, where winner Michael Block and all top 20 finishers earned invitations to that year’s PGA Championship.

In addition to the aforementioned teams, this first-time event also included Appalachian State University, James Madison University, Old Dominion University, Florida Atlantic University, Western Carolina University, University of Maryland, Jacksonville University, and Texas State University.

Half of this high-caliber team field finished the 54-hole, stroke play competition with team scores under par. Playing at 7,578 yards, the par-72 layout also yielded 27 individual scores under par.
