A full field of nearly 240 players descended upon the Grand Strand golf scene this week to kick off Myrtle Beach’s 2024 tournament season by teeing it up in the 10th edition of the Brittain Resorts Classic.
Tournament entries are comprised of two-person teams, with two flights of competitors playing on four sets of tees (Men’s, Women’s, Senior Men’s, Super Senior Men’s), with an average team index of 24 (12 avg. player). The Brittain Resorts Classic is being contested at each of six popular Myrtle Beach layouts, with Sea Trail-Jones and Barefoot-Norman hosting Monday’s round (best ball format); Man O’ War and Brunswick Plantation hosting Tuesday play (Texas scramble); and Caledonia and Founders Club at Pawleys Island hosting final-round play on Wednesday (scramble).
Myrtle Beach’s early-season tournaments are a great way for traveling golfers from wintry climates to cure their cabin fever, with players from 24 states and Canada arriving from such faraway states as Texas, Minnesota and Nevada. Aside from entries from the Carolinas, three additional states are represented by 12 or more players – including Maryland (12), New York (17) and Virginia (12).
Players are being greeted with pleasant playing conditions, with the Myrtle Beach forecast calling for increasingly sunny skies as the week progresses and daily high temperatures in the mid to upper 50s for the three days of play.
Each entry includes three rounds of tournament golf, a tournament gift apparel item, $50 gift card to Sea Captain’s House restaurant, a Sunday welcome lunch and awards lunch following Wednesday’s final round. Prizes are awarded to the top finishers in each flight, with daily contest prizes in each flight and random drawing prizes also up for grabs.
Each of nine premier Brittain Resorts properties offered special lodging rates for tournament participants, including Bay View on the Boardwalk, The Breakers Resort, Caribbean Resort & Villas, Compass Cove Oceanfront Resort, Grande Cayman Resort, North Beach Resort & Villas, Ocean Reef Resort, Paradise Resort and The Strand Myrtle Beach.
