Hundreds of military veterans from throughout the United States and its territories have descended upon the Grand Strand golf scene for a week of competition and camaraderie, as the GolfBuddy Veterans Classic tees it up this week from 15 Myrtle Beach-area courses.
The two-person team event is built around fellowship and honoring the brave men and women who have served our country. It features 580 players from 34 states and Guam, with at least one person on each team having served in the United States Military. Armed forces branch representation is led this year by the U.S. Army with 185 participants, followed by the Air Force (135), Navy (85), Marine Corps (48), Coast Guard (12) and National Guard (9).
The popularity of this event led event organizers to add a flight to this year’s competition, giving the GolfBuddy Veterans Classic five flights that each honor prominent past military leaders. The Curtis “LeMay” Flight enters the mix in 2021, joining the Dwight D. “Eisenhower” Flight, Douglas “MacArthur” Flight, Chester W. “Nimitz” Flight and Tommy “Franks” Flight.
First-round action (best ball format) tees of Monday morning from , The Wizard, Aberdeen, The Pearl and Barefoot-Norman. Tuesday’s second round (scramble) moves to Tradition Club, Long Bay, , Prestwick and Blackmoor, while Wednesday’s final round (modified alternate shot) wraps up play at West Course at Myrtle Beach National, Founders Club at Pawleys Island, True Blue, Arrowhead and Diamondback.
The Veterans Classic is powered this year by event title sponsor GolfBuddy, a leading innovator in the golf rangefinder industry with a primary goal to provide the most accurate and innovative golf rangefinders in the market. They are joined by presenting sponsor PGA TOUR Superstore in supporting the efforts of Golf Tourism Solutions’ Events Division in conducting the 2021 event.
