Led by a 3-under par performance by Steven Shea, Charlotte Catholic High School (NC) claimed the championship flight trophy Saturday at the 2022 Palmetto High School Golf Championship at True Blue Golf Club and Caledonia Golf & Fish Club, besting Marvin Ridge High School (NC) by 10 strokes.
Frederica Academy (GA) finished third in the competition, which was shortened to 36 holes after rain washed out final-round play on Saturday.
Ben McKinney, a junior from Woodruff High School (SC), won the individual competition with a 5-under 137 that included a 67 in second-round action. McKinney edged William Jennings of Christ Church Episcopal School (SC) by one stroke. Charlotte Catholic’s Shea finished third in the individual.
Wesleyan Christian Academy (NC) captured the Palmetto’s first flight championship with a five-stroke victory over Charlotte Christian School (NC), with North Raleigh Christian Academy (NC) taking third place eight shots off the leading pace.
The 2022 Palmetto was contested for the seventh consecutive year at renowned Mike Strantz designs True Blue and Caledonia, as 32 teams from the Carolinas, Georgia and several other states competed in a collegiate-style event.
