Charlie’s Corner: Monday After the Masters Continues To Get Better

May 10, 2010

charlie.jpgWelcome to Charlie’s Corner, the blog home for Golf Channel analyst Charlie Rymer. A lifelong Myrtle Beach golfer, Rymer, with his characteristic wit and unique perspective, will be weighing in on all things golf for Myrtle Beach Golf Holiday.

I’ve been very fortunate to be a part of nearly every Hootie and the Blowfish Monday after the Masters Celebrity Pro-am going back to the 2nd year. The event has a large title and from here on out I’ll refer to it as MAM.

Events of this magnitude deserve a large title and the MAM fits the billing. Among other accolades it has become the largest single-day fundraiser in the state of South Carolina.  And Myrtle Beach is the perfect place for the event.

My hat is off to the guys in the band for understanding how important it is to give back to the community that has been so instrumental to their success. So many times charity events run through a short life cycle. MAM defies that trend and continues to gain momentum.

This year’s MAM was better than ever!  Mix great celebrities with personable Tour pros and great venues and you are gonna get something special.

Over the years I’ve either worked on the television broadcast or played as a professional. This year I had a chance to do both. I hope my TV skills were sharper than my golf skills because the golf wasn’t pretty.  Oh, I talked a big game but that was about it.  “All mouth no game” is the best way to describe my golf these days.

But poor play didn’t prevent me from having a blast. And I wasn’t the only one. Fun was had by all and I think you’ll see that when you tune in to Golf Channel for the show on May 11th.
