Two popular Myrtle Beach designs have once more assumed a lofty perch in a major course ranking, as GOLF Magazine and GOLF.com recently included Caledonia Golf & Fish Club and The Dunes Golf & Beach Club among their “Top 100 Courses You Can Play in the U.S.” for 2024-2025.
The classic Robert Trent Jones design at The Dunes Golf & Beach Club comes in at No. 60, while Mike Strantz’s Lowcountry masterpiece at Caledonia Golf & Fish Club comes in at No. 76.
Pebble Beach, Pinehurst No. 2, Pacific Dunes, The Lido and Bethpage Black comprise the top five on the most recent GOLF Magazine list, while South Carolina’s top inclusion and host of the 2021 PGA Championship, The Ocean Course at Kiawah Island, comes in at No. 6.
To compile this ranking, each GOLF Magazine panelist was provided a list of 609 courses. Beside that list of courses were 11 “buckets,” or groupings, and if panelists considered a course to be among the top three in the country in a particular bucket, they ticked that box. If they believed the course to be among Nos. 4-10 in the U.S., they checked that box, followed by 11-25, 26-50, and so on. Panelists were also free to write in courses that they felt should have been included on the ballot.
