Package Pro Spotlight: Golf Gurus

Myrtle Beach Golf gurus kishTwenty years ago, Kish Gohil would drop his son off at school and hustle to the office to meet the growing demands of his fledgling golf package company. When things got crazy, Gohil enlisted the help of family and his golf-playing neighbors, utilizing their expertise to give golfers exactly what the wanted.

Whether it was Kish, his brother A.J. Gohil or a friend, the mission was the same – put together a package that maximized quality and value. That commitment, along with tireless work, paid off.

One of Gohil’s clients told him his team featured a bunch of gurus, and with that one of the most recognizable and successful Myrtle Beach golf package companies got its name – Myrtle Beach Golf Gurus.

“They said, ‘You guys are gurus. You know how to do it,’” Kish said. “We started using it.”

The Myrtle Beach golf landscape has changed immensely over the last two decades, but the Golf Gurus’ core values have remained steadfast. Customer experience and value come from first.

Whether its course conditions, aeration schedules or helping a group leader assemble a trip that best suits a disparate group, Golf Gurus prides itself on making sure there are no surprises.

“My guys check to see if there are maintenance issues,” Gohil said. “If a course has been aerated within 15 days, we will call customers (including online bookings) and let them know. We want to keep that connection. People can just call and ask us a question. We view ourselves as a resource.”

In the beginning, the Golf Gurus (original name: Grand Strand Golf and Entertainment) were a resource for smaller hotels who didn’t have the ability to hire a fulltime golf staff. As the Myrtle Beach golf market evolved, so did the Gurus.

They now act as a de facto golf department for some of the area’s larger hotels, but the company still sees its primary job as being an advocate for golfers.

“We fight for the customer to get the right deal,” Gohil said.

The Golf Gurus aren’t alone in their commitment to providing players the level of service they deserve –  Myrtle Beach golf package providers have been the backbone of the area’s growth over the years – but they have been one of the most enduring examples.

A familiar presence in the community, Golf Gurus have been instrumental to the success of the Myrtle Beach Never Forgets Memorial Golf Outing and they are active in raising money for an assortment of local charities.

Their work is typically with an eye on the greater good.

“We are fighting to bring people to Myrtle Beach,” Gohil said.

That fight has been good for visiting golfers and the Myrtle Beach golf community as a whole.
